Inaugural Rabbi Joel Wasser z”l Memorial Scholar-in-Residence Weekend

Rabbi Brad ArtsonKol Ami Sisterhood and Men’s Club Shabbat proudly present the inaugural launch of the Rabbi Joel Wasser z”l Memorial Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Weekend, which will take place Friday, May 29 through Sunday, May 31, 2015. We are pleased to be welcoming Rabbi Bradley Shavit Artson, Dean of the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies and Vice President at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles. In addition to being a friend and colleague of Rabbi Wasser, our esteemed and respected scholar is the author of such books as “God of Becoming and Relationships,” “Passing Life’s Tests,” “The Bedside Torah,” to name a few.

The schedule and topics for SIR weekend is as follows:

Friday, May 29th: Friday Evening Service – Rabbi Artson will present a D’var Torah entitled “Where American Judaism is Headed.” During the dinner following services, Rabbi Artson will be speak about “The Future of Conservative Judaism.” Dinner reservations are now closed.

Saturday, May 30th: Shabbat Morning – Rabbi Artson will present a D’var Torah focused on “Torah for the Brave.” Kiddush luncheon will follow services with another lecture by Rabbi Artson: “All Mighty, No Way: A New View of Looking at G-d.”

Sunday, May 31st: Rabbi Artson will be the keynote speaker for Sisterhood’s Torah Fund brunch, which will honor Aleksandra “Sasha” Meek. The brunch is open to all female members of Kol Ami as well as female guests for a nominal charge
. Rabbi Artson will lecture on “Out of the Kitchen in 5775: Lighting the Fire within Today’s Jewish Woman.

spread-revMark your calendars as the next scheduled Howard  Kanter Kiddush luncheon will take place on Saturday, June 20. The Howard Kanter Kiddush FUN(d) Committee has worked out an arrangement with Edibles by Ethel, which will help us continue to bring our members these monthly luncheons for the foreseeable future.  Your additional donations will help ensure this effort for years to come.  So come for the ruach of Shabbos morning services and stay for the fellowship of the luncheon.
