Congregation Kol Ami welcomes interim Rabbi Howard Siegel and his wife, Dr. Ellen Lefkowitz from Vancouver, BC Canada. Rabbi Siegel will be the interim Rabbi for Kol Ami for the next year beginning on August 2, 2017. Rabbi Siegel is an experienced congregational rabbi with proven success in long-term and recently, interim pulpits, focused on education, outreach, and community building. Rabbi Siegel has served as a long-term as well as an interim rabbi in 3 congregations. His latest pulpit was in Vancouver where he served as their interim Rabbi for three years.

Rabbi Siegel was born in Los Angeles and moved to Spokane, Washington, at a young age. His motivation to become a rabbi came from his involvement in Jewish summer camps. He began his career as a public school teacher and then attended the University of Judaism followed by the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York, where he earned his Master of Arts in Judaica in 1978 and later his Doctor of Divinity (honoris).

Further, Rabbi Siegel brings a wealth of educational experience as the Founding Director of the Solomon Schechter Day School of St. Louis, Missouri; as the Interim Hillel Director for the University of Minnesota; as the Assistant Rabbi/Educational Director of Congregation Beth Israel in Vancouver, British Columbia; and as a teacher at Cleveland High School in Portland, Oregon. Rabbi Siegel has been widely published and he has served in many professional organizations such as the Rabbinical Assembly; Houston Rabbinical Association; Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education; National Rabbinic Cabinet of Israel Bonds, National UJC Rabbinic Cabinet; and Chancellor's Rabbinic Cabinet of the Jewish Theological Seminary.
