The Youth Director for 2017-2018 will be Rachel Degani. Rachel’s vision is to facilitate and foster a youth movement dedicated to growth, friendships, and self-expression. She is passionate about building upon a foundation of leadership and success mentality; a youth movement that works together to embrace servitude and radiates the overarching purpose to make the world a better place.
Rachel grew up in south Florida with a childhood rich in enthusiasm for Judaism expressed through music, art, debate, youth group, summer camp, and a love for learning. Growing up in an Israeli household with a Rabbi for a father and a Cantor for a mother, Judaism and Israel were at the forefront of many values and philosophies instilled.
Rachel’s Jewish identity was further fostered with summers in Jewish drama camp and travel camp through the JCC, as well as Jewish sleep away camp. As a teenager she was very involved with the B’nai Brith Youth Organization (BBYO) and held various positions on the Board while working with her parents as a Hebrew school teacher. In college she worked as a Hebrew school teacher, B’nai mitzvah tutor, and youth advisor for middle and high school youth groups in Orlando.
She moved to Tampa to earn her masters degree in Communication Disorders and currently works as a speech therapist in the Tampa Bay area. She has been teaching in the Kol Yeladim Hebrew School at Kol Ami for 5 years and is very excited and honored to embark on this new journey as youth director.
