As we gather to celebrate the Festival of Chanukah, I am reminded of the many lights that illuminate our lives—both within our homes and within our synagogue community. Chanukah is a time of miracles, resilience, and hope, and it provides us with a powerful opportunity to reflect on the values that sustain us as a congregation and as individuals.
The story of Chanukah is one of faith and perseverance. When the Maccabees reclaimed the Temple, they found only a small amount of oil to light the menorah—enough for just one day. Yet, with faith and determination, they lit the menorah, and it burned for eight miraculous days. This story teaches us that even when our resources feel scarce, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, we can draw upon inner reserves of strength and trust in the possibility of miracles. We can also call on our relationships we’ve built over the years, both in our personal lives and the relationships we’ve built with other Kol Ami members.
In many ways, our synagogue embodies this same spirit. Over the past year, we have faced challenges and celebrated milestones. From multiple hurricanes to the introduction of new programs and initiatives, our community has proven time and again that it is a source of light and inspiration. Each one of you contributes to this brightness—through your presence, your participation, and your support.
I invite you to join us for the many special events we have planned during this Season of Light. Whether you attend our Chanukah party on December 29th, our nightly Chanukiyah lighting or participate in our 2nd Annual Latke Cook-Off, your presence makes our light shine even brighter.
On behalf of the synagogue leadership, I wish you and your loved ones a joyous and meaningful Chanukah. May your homes be filled with warmth, laughter, and the glow of the menorah. And may we all continue to draw strength from the shared light of our community.
Happy Chanukah!
