Shalom Kol Ami,
Adar is here, and with it comes a sense of happiness that feels much needed amidst the challenges of today’s world. Adar is traditionally a time for joy, and what better way to embrace this than celebrating Purim, our most “happy” holiday? At Kol Yeladim, we’ve already started this month on a joyful note, and the excitement is just beginning.
Our recent Hamantaschen Make & Take event was a smashing success! Nearly 60 people joined us for an afternoon filled with fun, creativity, and community. Families not only got to bring hamantaschen home but also made dozens more for our upcoming Purim Carnival. It was inspiring to watch families come together to enjoy the process and fulfill a mitzvah at the same time. A huge Todah Rabah to Staci Cross, Ari Horowitz, Jamie Krischer, Michael West, Lauren Dunayer, Davina Horowitz, Alissa Chernin, MK Williams, Aurelia West, & Daniel Horowitz for working so hard in the kitchen to make this a successful event!
In February, our students participated in a meaningful Tu B’Shevat Seder. They enjoyed sampling unique fruits like dragon fruit while learning about the holiday’s deeper messages of renewal and connection to nature. Meanwhile, our Shalom Yeladim program brought the beauty of Tu B’Shevat to our youngest learners with stories, songs, and fruit-tasting led by Rabbi Chaya and Mrs. Shaina.
March is brimming with events designed to bring families together, celebrate our traditions, and create lasting memories. Here’s what is on the horizon:
- Glitter, Glam & Groggers Purim Carnival (Sunday, March 9th, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM)
Get ready for royal carnival games, face painting, a bounce house, delicious hamantaschen, and even a dunk tank! It’s the ultimate Purim celebration for all ages. - Megillah Reading & Purim Spiel: A Wicked, Wicked Spiel (Thursday, March 13th, 6:30 PM)
Don your costumes and join us for a spirited evening featuring a sing-along, plenty of festivity, and a retelling of Queen Esther’s bravery in a “wickedly” fun way. - Pizza & Pajamas Shabbat (Friday, March 14th, 5:30 PM)
Kids 8 and under are invited to come in their pajamas for a cozy Shabbat evening. Enjoy pizza, singing with Rabbi Blatt, and a special visit from Todah the Sloth and David Berger. Be sure to RSVP! - Shabbat School & Beginyan Programs
Our 6th and 7th graders will gather for Shabbat School on March 15th and March 29th, while our 2nd-5th graders will join us for their final Beginyan program on March 29th.
Spring Break Reminder
Religious School will be on a brief hiatus from March 16th to March 23rd for Spring Break. Classes will resume with Zoom sessions for 3rd-7th graders on Wednesday, March 26th, and in-person sessions for Pre-K to 2nd graders on Sunday, March 30th.
Adar is a month filled with opportunities to embrace joy, connection, and tradition. I hope to see everyone at the Purim Carnival this Sunday and at all the exciting events we have planned throughout the month. Let’s make this Adar one to remember as we celebrate, learn, and grow together.
B’Shalom,
Jennifer West
