I want to thank all of the Kol Ami congregants who helped to make our Mike Korenvaes Man of the Year event a great success! There were around 150 people in attendance, and they raised a lot of money for Brotherhood. These donations will pay for programming and our Leadership Development Fund, which allows Brotherhood to attend various Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs (FJMC) events, like conventions and training sessions throughout the country. Yasher Koach again to Mitch Weiss, our much deserved honoree, and we will all miss him when he retires in a few months.
Brotherhood is in its busy season and has plenty of upcoming events. We recently had our Chai Guys team, led by Ari Horowitz, help set up and prepare for the Purim Carnival, and we just had our always popular Brotherhood Hangout Night at Tampa Tap Room. In a few weeks, one of my favorite events, Cigars and Spirits Night, will be on Tuesday, April 8 at the Corona Cigar Company. Even if you are not a fan of cigars, come join us outside away from the smoke, and enjoy quality bottles of scotch (responsibly). It’s hard to believe, but we started this annual event way back in 2018, which makes this our 7th Cigar and Spirits Night with 2020 being the exception when the world shut down.
We also have a Hearing Men’s Voices session coming up and will discuss Men’s Relationship with Their Fathers on Sunday, May 4 at 10 AM, led by Dr. Mario Rodriguez, licensed psychologist. This is one of our few events open to men only.
I’ve been fortunate enough to serve as Brotherhood President for the last four years, and it’s been a great experience serving the shul, following in the footsteps of my predecessors like Barry Dvorchik (z’l) and Mario Rodriguez. I look forward to our new President, my friend and brother, Yoav Rappaport, taking the reins in a few months. I know he is a natural leader and destined to keep Brotherhood the strong arm of the synagogue.
See you at shul!
